The INSIGHT Study

Low back pain affects many people in the UK and accounts for 5% of GP appointments. Although we have digital tools to help people with low back pain, we don’t know how they work for patients and healthcare professionals, and whether they provide good care. getUBetter is a digital health app used by the NHS to support people with low back pain. The INSIGHT study aims to understand the clinical and cost-effectiveness of implementing the getUBetter app into primary care.

You can be a part of the study in two ways:

1) Help us to identify potential participants: We will recruit patients who use the app, and those who don’t.  It doesn’t matter how much you use getUBetter at your practice. Patient participants will complete a survey four times over a 12-month period, to capture their use of getUBetter, any changes in their symptoms, quality of life, and treatment costs.

2) Take part in an interview to hear your thoughts about getUBetter and digital technology: This will help us to understand your experiences and the factors that influence your decision around the use of getUBetter.

Study recruitment will be carried out between March 2025 – October 2025 inclusive.

You will be fully reimbursed for taking part in the study.
